Can Blinds insulate your conservatory?
This question was recently put to me by a customer in Teignmouth. Their conservatory faced North and consequently, in winter and night time the room was very cold. I started by fitting some Blackout Roller Blinds to the side windows.
The theory being that the blackout lining would act as extra insulation. The roof was a mixture of rectangular and triangular windows, with one awkward square gap where the shaped windows met at the top. Also there was a lack of fixing points at top and bottom
Firstly I fitted white powder coated aluminium fixing bars around the top & bottom, to fit the Blind brackets to. I then fitted Pleated Roof Blinds in Hive fabric, which is a two layered fabric with an air gap between the layers. This provides excellent thermal insulation. I also fitted a small square Blind in the aforementioned gap. The customer was delighted with the look and I was delighted a few days later when he rang me up to say he’d got up in the night, to let his dog out, and the room was so much warmer than in the past.
